Grades listed refer to the grade your child will enter in the Fall of 2018.Classes are organized by grade range.
Classes are 1 hour unless otherwise noted.
All classes will be held at South School.
Jump Start Kindergarten (9:00 - 12:00)
Jump Start K is a great way to introduce your child to South School and kindergarten. Students will be introduced to reading, writing, and math skills and learning strategies. This class will include fun and enriching activities in the areas of social/emotional learning, structured play, and special area content (art, music, Spanish, gardening and PE). Students will be provided many hands-on learning activities and have the opportunity to explore technology. Daily snack and recess are included in the morning. *Please note this is a 3 hour class.
Camp Games and Crafts (9:00 - 10:00)
What time is it Mr. Fox? It’s time to play your favorite summer camp games and make summer mementos! This class combines your artistic and your athletic sides - best of both worlds! You will be equipped with accessories and plenty of fun games to play at recess.
Chess Masters (9:00 - 10:00)
Whether you are a beginner or advanced player, come learn and play chess in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We will develop chess skills, work on tactics and strategies, and make new friends! Both casual and competitive players are welcome.
Board game Bonanza (9:00 - 10:00)
Have a game night every day! Students will learn and play a variety of board games from the classics like Chutes and Ladders and Yahtzee to new favorites! Students will also be able to create their own board game and rules! Come roll the dice with us!
Make-a-messterpiece (9:00 - 10:00)
Spend your summer immersing yourself with art! Don’t be afraid to get messy while we make goop, “mud” play doh, melt crayons, and other messterpieces! It’s time to unleash your creative spirit!
Minute to Win It (9:00 - 10:00)
Compete in and create fast paced challenges! Students will race against the clock and each other to complete a variety of skill and movement activities. What can you do in a minute??
PE Games (9:00 - 10:00)
Do you wish P.E. and all the fun games were available year round? Now they are! Play all your favorite games that you do during the school year in P.E., such as battleship, kickball, pin guard, and capture the flag this summer.
World Culture Club (9:00 - 10:00)
Make sure your passport is up to date! With World Culture Club students will explore countries and cultures. Students will learn native songs, dances, and phrases native to the country of the day. Students will have creative freedom during games and art activities to demonstrate what they've learned.
Shine In 1st (9:00 - 12:00)
Students entering 1st grade will have the opportunity to apply the skills and strategies they were taught in reading, writing, and math, and prepare for the school year ahead. Fun and enriching opportunities in the areas of phonics, word study, fluency, comprehension, math, and social emotional learning will be provided through hands on learning activities. Students will also enjoy art, music, PE style activities, and gardening. Daily snack and recess are included in the morning. *Please note this is a 3 hour class.
Coding and 3D Design (9:00 - 10:00)
You don't need a decoder ring to read this code! Learn how to program websites, apps, and games. Stay cool this summer and learn computer coding and how to make ideas come alive with 3D printing.
Engineers in Action (9:00 - 10:00)
Can you build an unsinkable boat? What about a "bionic" arm? This summer take on hands-on design challenges that bring engineering to life! We will design, build, test, and advance our ideas each week and have a blast doing it!

Tourney Time (9:00 - 10:00)
Round Robin to March Madness - learn and develop your skills in a variety of sports, races, and games through daily or weekly tournaments. Tournaments will include individual and team activities.
Summer Running (9:00 - 10:00)
Join us for a healthy way to stay in shape and have fun this summer through running! Activities will include long jumps, sprinting, strength and conditioning, stretching and recovery, and much more. Grab your sneakers and let's hit the track!
Movie Mania (9:00 - 10:00)
Movie reviews, trivia, and producing! Become a triple threat as a film critic, a trivia master, and a movie producer. Movie goers in this class will develop a film appreciation of classics and current movies, and end the summer by making a movie trailer.
Backyard Art (9:00 - 10:00)
Step into our backyard and make art and craft projects while enjoying the summer weather! Tie dye, bird houses, nature mosaics, and jewelry and candle making along with many more hands-on activities will be made this summer.
Fabric and Fibers: Learn to sew, knit, and spin wool (9:00 - 10:00)
Spice up your wardrobe and accessories! Make a quilted pillow, skirt, or stuffed animal from a kit. Turn your old clothes into new favorites by adding embroidery designs! Learn to sew by hand and machine, make yarn, use a hand spinning spindle, and knit! Your closet will thank you!
Stop Motion Animation (9:00 - 10:00)
Calling all Lego Movie Fans! Stop Motion Animation is a unique, creative, and exciting way to design and produce your own short films. Each week students will learn various stop motion techniques, and put these skills to practice while creating their own stop motion animation movies. Roll out the red carpet for your young producer!
Yoga and Meditation for Kids (9:00 - 10:00)
Balance your active summer with this zen den. This class is a combination of energetic yoga postures and sequences with calming and relaxing meditation. Through healthy movements students will build concentration and agility, develop body awareness, and manage stress through breathing.
Bike and Hike (9:00 - 10:00)
Come Bike and Hike beautiful Glencoe! Bike and Hikers will explore the beach, Green Bay Trail, Little House, Ravinia, and the Skokie Lagoons. All this plus orienteering, scavenger hunts, safety, and fitness. Students will be given a safety presentation and bike registration from Glencoe Public Safety. Please note, your child should have the endurance to sustain an hour bike ride. For group riding safety, a properly sized bike for your rider (approximately 24 inch wheels recommended), functioning gears, fitted helmet, and confident bike riding skills are required.
Poetry Corner (9:00 - 10:00)
Roses are red, violets are blue, we want to write poetry with you! Join our poets' corner while you find your creative voice and learn about and write different styles of poetry. Our young poets will end the summer with a collection of poems to share.
Breakfast Basics (9:00 - 10:00)
Breakfast is served! Breakfast Basics is a cooking class focusing on making (and eating) our favorite breakfast treats. Dig in to pancakes, waffles, oatmeals, and more! Chefs will receive a cookbook at the end to share their breakfast favorites with you. Join us for a summer of fun creating and eating! *Please note this class includes food preparation and consumption.
Glencoe Ninja Warrior (9:00 - 10:00)
Are you ready to test your speed, skills, and strength? Train this summer like a ninja warrior! Build your endurance during agility training, fitness training, and obstacle courses. The next America Ninja Warrior could be you!
Rocket Cars (9:00 - 10:00)
Start your engines! Students will design, build, and race "rocket" powered cars. Students will take a block of wood and transform it into a carbon dioxide powered car of the future!
Dodgeball (9:00 - 10:00)
Learn the 5 Ds of dodgeball - dodge, duck dip, dive, and dodge. Combine fitness and fun for an unforgettable time playing daily variations of the classic game of Dodgeball.
Tabletop (9:00 - 10:00)
Enjoy a social and imaginative experience playing the most popular tabletop role playing game…Dungeons and Dragons. Dungeon masters will learn the rules, create characters, and work together as adventurers to overcome challenges and foes. Other role playing and civilization development games like Settler of Catan and Flashpoint will be played. Don't worry, 20 sided die included.
